Harrison Bergeron

6:50 PM

Imagine living in a world having to deal with being the same as everyone else. Wouldn’t that be boring and dull? In the story “Harrison Bergeron” there were many horrific things that happen. This story is a irony with many aspects that I don’t agree with.

Living in a world having to be the same as everyone else is not right. If your beautiful you have to wear a ugly mask. I don’t agree with this part of the story; why does everyone have to be the same? There is no reason for that. This is the only part of the short story that I don’t not like; what is wrong with the person that wrote this? Many people don’t think that anyone who is beautiful should have to wear a mask; if your pretty you should be able to show people that you are! This part of the short story it makes me so angry; being the same is not always a good thing. So that they can be "equal"; well being the same doesn’t matter, everyone has there own special thing that they are good at. Each and every person is good at something different if someone is born with a gift you don’t take that away from him/her so that they can be equal. Another thing is that the people that are smart have to have a loud noise go into there heads. Well that is not right either, people with the ability to be smart should be able to show the world how smart they are.

Many aspects of the short story have to do with being the same, but not the plot line. Ironies are stories that start in chaos. The world that these poor families live in, always have to be the same. Then after that happens the main character struggles for life. When this happens Harrison is being shot by Diana. Then it ends in death or death symbolism. In the ending of the short story "Harrison Bergeron" there is a tragic death of the son. Harrison dies, because he gets shot by Diana Moon Glampers. Which means that the ending of the story is death. The short story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut is also unrealistic no person on Earth would ever want everyone to be the same as anyone else; and if the would then they are crazy.

Although the short story was a unrealistic irony with many intriguing symbols it is a good story. I don’t agree with most of this short story because of all the horrible arguing. No one would ever want to live in a world where you have to be the same. Living in a world, being the same is not right; everyone has there own taste, own style and own looks.
