Tell Tale-Heart

Envision having to live with a mad man. He doesn’t think that he is crazy, but in all reality he is. No matter how sane this man tries to seem he’s not. The man is grumpy, immature and wants to kill someone that isn’t even doing anything bad to him. Edgar Allen Poe was a writer that had a dark past and uses great symbols that makes this story the Tell Tale-Heart a tragedy.

Evil eye is a creepy word that had to symbolize death for the old man. Death is a very scary thing for most people, but for the old man he had a reason to be scared. The Evil eye of the old man was the part that drove his house keeper mad. Although he claims to be something other than mad, we have proven him wrong; “after you hear the precautions I have taken with his body you will think no longer that I am mad.” “I have hid the body under the floor boards, you do not call me mad now do u?” After the man had said this, I would think he was more mad than I had thought. Death had to be the one thing that this old man did not see coming, the evil eye was the housekeepers worst enemy.

Living a life of abandonment is not easy, but Edgar did it with some struggle. Growing up in the place of Edgar would be a huge struggle for most people. Abandoned as a child he lived a horrid life, living all alone with a step father that doesn’t like you. Would you want to live with someone that hates you? Most people wouldn’t want to.

Although he lived a life that had many challenges he did not let it take him down. Edgar was a very strong independent person that had written stories about evil eyes and death. Abandoned as a child he still did many miraculous pieces.

Peacock

How many times did you think you saw something around a corner? Or a flash of something down the hall? Well in the piece Peacock By: Dennis Nechvatal there are many terrifying objects that make you think about how he came up with this master piece. Nechvatal makes me think about life and how I as a person interpret things. All of Nechvatal’s pieces are powerful images and a little bit creepy with great texture and colors.

Dennis Nechvatal makes strong and powerful images whether it is a meticulous landscape, of still life or a collage of metal masks. Getting a closer view while slowly converting into sophisticated painting of the natural world. The artist is offering a series feature of abundant floral boutiques that are lush with delicate brushstrokes. Dennis Nechvatal is truly one of Wisconsin's top artists still working today.

Another interesting item are the sinister faces all over on the piece. On the mans face there are faces of all different colors. Some of them are happy and some are sad. This represents how everyone can be either sad or happy, but no matter what they are always going to be themselves. In the background of the piece Peacock there are also faces, but these faces all look scared. And that makes me wonder if the painter was trying to make it seem like something bad is going to happen. This makes me think about how Nechvatal had come up with this piece of art. Various of the colors in this piece make it happy, but then when you look at the face you think twice. Nechvatal made a person with half the mouth closed and half of it open with teeth sticking out of one end. The background of this piece is trees and plants, but among them there are faces, some look elderly and some look young. Most of the faces look scared; I believe that Dennis was trying to display a message that something dreadful is going to happen.

Faces are an important part of this piece, but so is the texture. Texture is a very important aspect of this piece. While there are light, small brushstrokes bringing this piece together and making it a masterpiece he also makes his paint very thick. This shows that Nechvatal makes layers of color to make the art piece appealing and appalling at the same time. With his texture he shows that he was trying to mix a lot of paint together to make the colors and texture perfect.

Texture and color are equally important to artists, but what is more important to Dennis Nechvatal? Color, that is what makes certain artists unique. One artist for instance is Joseph Nechvatal, this is Dennis’s brother: yet they both have different tastes. Joseph likes to make robotic art, while Dennis enjoys to make realistic art. Although most artists use bright colors, Joseph enjoys to use dark and chilling colors. Most of the time colors are very essential, but for Dennis the most important aspect for him is the texture. Color is mostly important to artists that like to make replicas of other paintings. Dennis Nechvatal is one artist that will always have a unique style that will never be able to be interpreted. Every artist has their own style, types of color, and texture that they use to show the person that is looking at the piece of art.

Although many artists don’t like to draw real life items, Dennis does. He enjoys to make a lot of real life art, like flowers and trees. Dennis can also make creepy pieces which always turn out great. Most of his paintings have great color, texture and extremely scary, or incredibly beautiful landscapes.
